Boatbuilding Instructor

Overall Package £31K (including pension)

We are looking for an experienced shipwright to join our expanding team in the International Boatbuilding Training College Portsmouth, training students of all ages to the highest standards of craftsmanship in traditional boatbuilding. You will be based in the Historic Dockyard, a centre of shipbuilding and boatbuilding for over 800 years, and be involved, along with the students and volunteers, in the restoration of many important historic vessels as well as in the construction of replica vessels. A strong motivation to pass on your skills and the ability to inspire others through effective communication are vital. Previous teaching experience is not essential.

Main duties include:

1. Delivering high quality shipwright training to Learners;

2. Assessing and recording Learner progress against training targets, creating tailored Learning Plans;

3. Managing deployment of Learners to maximise learning opportunity and productivity;

Front of House Visitor Hosts

Two part-time roles available, £9/£11 per hour

Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust is seeking to recruit two individuals to join an existing team of Visitor Hosts working in Boathouse 4 at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The Hosts will join a rota to cover weekends and public holidays and provide occasional cover in school holiday periods when visitor numbers are at their peak.

In addition to welcoming visitors and monitoring visitor numbers, Hosts will be responsible for the daily operation of the Forgotten Craft Exhibition. Hosts will be trained in fire safety procedures and will have general responsibility for the health and safety of visitors in the building. Hosts will undertake Duty Fire Marshal duties for some shifts (for which the rate of £11 per hour will be payable).

This role will suit individuals who enjoy working in a public-facing environment and can work without direct supervision. Previous experience of working at a leisure attraction, heritage site or museum would be an advantage.

Applicants must be available to work at least one day each weekend or one weekend in two.
